Old Gregg is arguably the most well known of all the characters from the Mighty Boosh, and could be said to have achieved cult status, especially in recent years.
A pretty cool feat given that he was really, a one off character.
This could be due in part to a truncated version of his appearance in the “The Legend of Old Gregg” (series 2) being uploaded to Youtube in the form of a clip that might be named simply “Old Gregg”.
What exactly Old Gregg is, is a topic of much debate.
The easy answer, a Scaly Man Fish. But is he half man, half fish. Is he 70/30, 60/40.
Who really knows?
To be honest, People don’t rightly know, they don’t really know what he got.
Throw into the mix the fact that he is a nice modern gentleman and his confusing genitalia, referred to as a Mangina, or Downstairs mix up that is also rumoured to emit a blinding light and the plot thickens.
Old Gregg resides in an sub-aquatic cave that is known as Gregg’s Place.
The cave contains a cocktail bar stocked with soft creamy Bailey’s, as well as small-scale disco lights.
It is filled with all things that are good and really, everything that you need.
Old Gregg likes to do watercolours and possesses quite the portfolio. It mainly consists of self portraits and perhaps his most widely known work, “As close as you can get to Baileys, without your eyes getting wet.”
Old Gregg is always on the look out for love, is prone to falling in love hard, quick and he enjoys nothing more than playing love games or visiting clubs where people wee on each other.
He is often impatient and short tempered and can be quite needy.
One of his greatest traits is his ability at dealing with things.
Old Gregg’s diet consists exclusively of Baileys, drunk mostly from a shoe. Making the “shoey” famous long before the current crop of F1 drivers.
That is pretty much all we know about Old Gregg, a true mystery of the waters.
Additional Appearances (courtesy of Wikia.com)
Old Gregg returned in series 3, in a deleted scene from the episode “Party”. In this scene, Howard is shown leading what he believes to be an attractive, young, jazz-loving woman to his bedroom, but after he goes into the room, the ‘woman’ turns to the camves his/her human face, revealing Old Gregg underneath. He announces that he is “Going to give (Howard) the time of his life” before adding “I’m Old Gregg!” and proceeding into the bedroom.
Old Gregg appears at the end of the Mighty Boosh Live Tour, emerging from a giant present delivered to Howard. At the end of the show Howard invites Old Gregg into his wheelbarrow.
